A recent mobile market report by Gartner showed that there were 428 million cell phones sold during the first quarter of this year, with 100.7 million of those falling into the smartphone category. That represents a 19 per cent increase in cell phone sales year-over-year and a whopping 85 per cent increase in smartphone sales year-over-year.

Cell phones may be the cause of low sperm count in some men, with studies suggesting that men who want children should switch off their old cell phones. Researchers at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, in Canada, believe that the electromagnetic radiation emitted by used cell phones could be leading to decreased fertility in males.

Pay for Dinner with Old Cell Phones

People who eat at a restaurant and then claim to have no money to pay for their share of the may not have a leg to stand on soon, if they are carrying an old cell phone. A new system developed by software gurus Micros Systems and electronic payment company VeriFone could soon mean that people will be able to pay for their restaurant meals with their cell phones, via a digital wallet that is stored on the device.
