With 2017 done and dusted, we thought it might be worth analysing the most popular mobile phones and tablets sold through SellCell.com. With the release of some incredible flagship devices last year, it will be interesting to find out which device were the most popular to cash-in. Without further adieu, let’s find out which device came of top the table:
Most Popular Android Devices
The Samsung Galaxy S7 sits pretty at the top of the Android list. After the release of the Samsung Galaxy S8 in April, the number of devices being sold through our site has seen a remarkable increase particularly in the final six months of last year. With over 50 million sold worldwide, there is no surprise to see this phone in the number one spot.
Although, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge was not far behind. Surprisingly, a strong percentage of the devices sold through our website were broken. Could this be to do with the Edge display?
Another cell phone that has climbed up the rankings over the past few months is the Samsung Galaxy S8. From July to December saw a huge rise in the number of devices being sold through the site. With the Samsung Galaxy S9 just over one month away from being released, we expect the device to rise even higher up the list in the coming months! The device is expected to rise once the new flagship model has been announced. This is a common occurrence for all leading cellphone companies.
SellCell have also seen a large increase in the number of Sony and OnePlus devices being sold through our website, particularly the LG G4 and OnePlus 2 models. The LG G series has seen a resurgence in recent years, with many customers being drawn in by their exceptional cameras and longstanding battery life.
The OnePlus 2 (also known as the flagship killer) gained a large following with its outstanding specs and deliciously low prices. With many fans upgrading their devices for the latest models such as the LG G6 and V30 or the Oneplus 5 and 5T, these devices have become the 4th and 5th most popular Android models of the year.

It’s time to switch sides and see the most popular sales for iOS models. This may come as a shock, but the most common iOS sale of 2017 was…. the iPhone 6S! The device was released two years ago but over time has finally reached the number 1 spot. The ultimate reason for the device being in top spot is down to the fact that many customers would have come to the end of their contract and be looking to put some cash towards their new highly desired device.
In second place comes its little brother – the iPhone 6. Very similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, we saw a huge increase in the number of devices being sold broken via our services. Being over 3 years old, this comes at no surprise but with a value of up to $129 for a broken one, this device is well worth selling whether it’s broken or not.
One of the more recent models has taken third place, the iPhone 7 has climbed it’s way to third place on our table. With the unbelievable hype behind the iPhone X and 8 last year, a whole host of fanatics decided to cash in on the iPhone 7 to help fund one of Apple’s flagship devices, leading to a huge surge in the number of sales across the US.
The iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 5S makes up the top five. The larger than life iPhone 6S Plus, saw a rise in sales, particularly during the aftermath of the iPhone X being released. Devices just to miss out on a top 5 spot are the iPhone SE, 5C and 5.

Overall, it is safe to say that iOS devices were by far the most popular to cash-in throughout 2017, making up 3 of the top 5 most popular devices. With Apple’s unexpected release of three impressive flagship devices in just one year, it comes as no surprise to see these models top the table.
There are many reasons as to why these particular devices have ranked so high on the list but the most obvious comes down to the influx of incredible devices that have been released from all leading brands this year. From the iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy to the LG G6 to the OnePlus 5t, these industry leading devices have moulded and shaped the tables above.
