While everyone wants a piece of the latest technology, something that can often result in old cell phones being thrown into the trash or, more responsibly, given to a cell phone recycling company such as SellCell, it may be a good idea to keep a hold of your seemingly out of date old smartphone for a little while longer, at least according to PC World
For one thing, it could be kept as an emergency phone. In the United States, even a deactivated smartphone (or indeed, any old cellular phone, actually) is still actually capable of calling 911, so it might not be such a bad idea to keep it around somewhere handy, even if it is just in the car or in a desk at the office. Where and when it might be needed is unclear, though if it was indeed kept for such a purpose, it is a good idea to keep some kind of power supply or charger to make sure it would actually have enough power to be used should such a scenario actually arise.
Although PC world make a valid point, whether people need to keep old cell phones is highly questionable. Most homes have several cell phones that can be used in an emergency. If the cell is not going to be used recycling is a great option. Recycling will allow the cell phone to be disposed of in the best way and the customer can get cash for it too.
